Music Spotlight: Vancouver’s Thorny Bleeder Records

It’s an odd name, but it sticks: Thorny Bleeder Records. This Vancouver based independent record label got its start when they put out their first release in the UK in 2006, the self-titled Art Of Dying debut album. Since then, this local upstart has continued to make inroads in the local, and international, music scene.
Their initial focus was on artist development for Art Of Dying, exposing them to audiences all over the world through tours with Disturbed, Seether, Saliva, Econoline Crush, and many festivals and headlining shows across the country. The band is now highly regarded as one of the next big international break-out acts from the Canadian rock scene.
The past six months has seen Thorny Bleeder take some huge steps towards further expansion of its label, its roster, and its services to the independent music community. Their roster now boasts a total of seven artists with another artist signed to their management division, Thorny Bleeder Management. Their roster of artists now includes Art Of Dying, Burning Borders, Over The Coals, Quartered, Ross Neilsen, The Rebellion, and TV Heart Attack, with solo artist Scott Valentine Presents signed on for management.
Thorny Bleeder Records will be releasing its next two albums by local Vancouver artists TV Heart Attack with their EP “Lost In The Sway” and Burning Borders new album “Yesterday’s Gone” on September 1st. Both albums will be available on iTunes and wherever you buy your music.
But they’re not just a record label, they also have an Artist Services division. Through this they offer a range of different services for hire to independent artists including radio promotion, press and publicity, artist bios, grant applications, and many other functions which an artist might require.
Oh yeah, they also operate a music blog (aptly named The Bleeder Blog) which offers free and legal mp3’s, music news and industry commentary, and advice for independent artists. They’re also a regular contributor on many different social media sites, so if you do a quick little search you’ll find them everywhere. Do yourself a favour and check these guys out, they’ve got some really great music and are an exciting part of the Vancouver music scene.
Thorny Bleeder was kind enough to give us a couple of Free MP3’s to share with our readers from their upcoming album releases, so download them now and crank up the tunes!
